The Circuits
The mini-descent: 8 km
If you are new to the sport, have only a half day to spare, and are looking for a fun-filled activity we recommend the mini-descent.
This circuit is 8 km long, and links VALLON PONT D'ARC and CHAMES. It will enable you to try your hand at Canoeing-Kayaking, to discover the beauty of the River, before taking on a descent of the Gorges de l'Ardèche over 1 or 2 days. |
If you choose to take this option, please note that - should you do it without stopping an hour to an hour and a half of non-stop paddling would be required. You will have at your disposal all the necessary equipment for the whole half day i.e. 3 or 4 hours which means that you have ample time to discover and enjoy the site at a leisurely pace and can take time out to swim, picnic and take in the surroundings...
The rapids of the 'Charlemagne' and the passage under the majestic natural arc of the 'Pont d'Arc' will undoubtedly be the high-points of your circuit.
The descents of the Gorges over 1, 2, 3 days or more: 24, 28, 32, 45 km and more.
If you are looking to make this over a day, we would recommend an early departure so as to maximize your enjoyment (especially during the summer months).
In order that you may get through a good part of the circuit before the sun starts beating down too hard and the river gets too busy. The water levels being relatively low in these periods, it is probably best to choose to leave either from the Pont d'Arc (28 km) at the foot of the Arch or else from Châmes (24 km), at the start of the Natural Reserve of the Gorges de l'Ardèche.
You will require between 5 and 8 hours to complete the circuit of the Gorges of 24, 28 or 32 km according to the water levels.
The descent over 2 days (32 km) with a bivouac in the midst of nature in the Gorges de l'Ardèche is naturally the best choice if you are really looking to live a true adventure. |
